CDT Digital: opening a CD without setting foot in a branch
We built the entire product, from the full frontend to the integrations with the bank's core systems. It was the bank's best product three years in a row, the team won an award for it, and it's still in production exactly as we built it.

The challenge
Opening a certificate of deposit (CDT) meant going to a branch. The bank wanted to move account opening and deposit collection to digital without giving up the security and compliance a financial product requires.
What we built
I joined the team in my second year at the bank, after a year in the Marketing department. We built the MVP and then the improved version: the entire frontend for the opening flow and every integration with the services connected to the bank’s core business.
- A 100% online opening experience that’s easy to follow and secure.
- Frontend in React and Next.js, middle-tier services in NestJS, and TypeScript across the stack.
- Code quality and security with SonarCloud, CI/CD on Azure DevOps, and user behavior tracking with Google Analytics.
How we worked
We used TDD (test-driven development), a methodology that was new to me and turned out to be the best I’ve worked with. At a bank, every release goes through strict quality and information security controls. That rigor is what let us ship a product that’s still running exactly as we left it.
The result
- We hit the account opening and deposit targets set by management within the first six months.
- We raised over COP 2 billion (≈ USD 500K) in the first two years.
- It was the bank’s best product three years in a row, and the team won an award for it.
- It’s still in production exactly as we built it.
